Know the Warning Signs and What to Do to Prevent Suicide
Are you or someone you know at risk of suicide? Here are some suicide warning signs:
- Isolating from friends and family
- Withdrawing from activities
- Extreme mood swings
- Visiting or calling friends to say goodbye
- Talking about feeling hopeless or having no reason to live
- Talking about wanting to die or kill oneself
- Looking for a way to kill oneself, such as searching online for materials or means
- Sleeping too much or too little
- Acting recklessly; acting anxious or agitated; increased use of alcohol or drugs
- Giving away prized possessions
If you or others you know are experiencing those symptoms, seek help immediately by contacting the Andrews University Counseling & Testing Center at 269-471-3470. Services are free and confidential to Andrews University students and their spouses. You can also call the suicide lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).
Suicide is preventable. There is hope.
